Material Use

Hanoch Piven is a great talent. It is interesting to see how he reveals the concept with the medium he used. When you first look at the illustration it is just a portrait. However, when you look at it interms of medium, you get the story behing it and have a clue about the character that had been portrayed.

15.4 millon$

This is a painting by Norman Rockwell. Why it is important? I was reading some stuff about history of illustration and it was saying that illustrators considered less important than the fine artists and the graphic designers, and bring less money to the companies. However nowadays it has been changed. And as an evident; "Breaking Home Ties". It was sold for 15.4 million$ in an auction in 2006!!!!!!! Keep working=)

İllustration Process

That might not be the best drawing or best illustration concept in the whole world, but I like the way how he presents his work. It is nice to see how a drawing can be developed during the work process. The very first skecthes doesn't reveal the final work at all. They are almost abstract. However that is the stage that the artist developed his concept. Second step is classical drawing. After adding details, some strong lines, shadows and colors artist's style becomes recognizable.

Woodcut

These are the wood cuts of Endi Poskovic who is an associate professor in University of Michigan School of art and design. He is very passionate about his work, and of course about printmaking. You can tell when you look at his work. He uses lots of colors in one print, that means he cuts lots of plates for one print. They are also very big in sizes. It is also wonderful that all of his prints have the same visual language. When you see his prints, you will be sure that its his.
